This is a quality alarm clock with a very good selection of features for the price. I have several alarm clocks in this price range and found this one to be the highest quality of the group. The clock will automatically set itself to a radio controlled atomic clock signal broadcast from Boulder, Colorado (the clock has an internal antenna) as long as it is within 2000 miles of Boulder. The Boulder clock is maintained at an accuracy in billionths of a second so it obviously is about the most accurate you will find anywhere. The alarm clock automatically re-synchronizes itself to the atomic clock signal daily to ensure continued accuracy. It's possible that if you live in an area of poor reception, such as a particularly mountainous area or an area near many electrical or electronic devices, the clock may not be able to pick up the signal. In that case, you have the option of adjusting the time manually so that it operates as a normal, non-signal driven clock. I live in a hilly area on the East Coast, about 1800 miles from Boulder (slightly less than the edge of the 2000 mile range). I would consider my location as one that would have trouble finding the Boulder signal yet the clock set itself (time and date) within 10 minutes of first placing the battery in it (considered normal operation). The battery by the way is a single AAA battery and is extremely easy to replace. The clock is stylish and folds easily into a very compact size for travel. The clock has two separate alarms, which can be set independently of each other and which have two distinctively different sounds. This can be handy if you want to set one alarm say to wake up in the morning and a second one to sound later in the day for some other event. The clock also has a snooze feature which can be adjusted for intervals from "0" to "59" minutes. If it is set to zero, the clock turns off for 24 hours whenever the snooze feature (the top of the clock) is "touched". The tone of the alarm is relatively pleasant and I find it quite adequate to awaken me. It isn't as loud and piercing as some alarm clocks but I happen to prefer it that way (I hate being awakened by the harsh, shrill tone of many alarms clocks). I suspect that it is plenty loud enough for most people. Still, if you are an *extremely* heavy sleeper and need a lot of noise to wake up, this may not be the clock for you. The clock has a quite good LCD blue backlight which is very easy to see and illuminates the relatively large, easily readable numerals and other indicators on the screen. The backlight is activated the same way as the snooze feature is, by "touching" the top (or sides) of the clock. There are no inconvenient buttons to find and press to do this, just a simple touch and those two features are activated though the capacitance of your hand coming in contact with the clock. Since the display is an LCD, the numerals and indicators themselves are always easily visible in a lighted or daylight room, even when the backlight isn't on. There is only one shortcoming I found with my clock and that is the complexity of setting the features such as alarm times, and snooze interval etc. Setting these features is done by combinations of 4 buttons on the back of the clock. I would have preferred having the buttons on the front where they would have been easier to find, read and manipulate. In order to see the buttons to make sure you are pressing the right one you have to turn the face of the clock away from you. Doing that however means it's hard to see the face and numerals while you are finding and pressing the buttons (even though each button is labelled with it's function). The manufacturer obviously made a trade-off of style instead of function in this case and I don't think the trade-off was a good one. Overall, I thought the complexity of setting the times and features was greater than it should have been. A relatively good instruction book is included and since the way to set the alarms and features is not intuitively obvious, you will want to keep it handy until you have gotten comfortable with doing it. Instructions for making the various settings on the clock are also printed on the bottom of the clock but the print is small and may be difficult for some people to read. I had a difficult time at first in deciding whether to rate this 4 stars or 5 stars. At first I thought that the lack of ease in setting the clock detracted enough to make it a "4" when it otherwise would have been a "5". I finally decided that the abundance of features and quality for the price overcame that one deficiency (in my opinion) and warranted rating it a "5" stars. Overall, I think this clock is an excellent value. I love mine and in spite of the lack of convenience in setting the alarms and other features, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment in buying another one.
