Spiegelau Five O'Clock Cocktail Glasses, Set of 4
Product Review
Chicly oversized, these Five O'Clock crystal cocktail glasses from Spiegelau add a dramatic flair to the evening wind-down. A set of four, the German-made glasses feature a modified martini shape with a slight bell to the bowl that softens the profile glamorously. They are pleasingly weighty in the hand without bulk or imbalance, and their five percent lead composition creates a beautiful clarity and bell-like tone. Perfect for martinis, they are also suitable for more playful drinks like Lemon Drops and Cosmopolitans. At 6-5/8 inches high, the glasses are 4-3/4 inches in diameter and hold 11 ounces each. They are also safe in the dishwasher, though Spiegelau recommends washing them by hand for best results. --Emily Bedard Product Description It's Five O'Clock and you're calling it a day, a perfect time to shift gears and relax with your favored spirit of choice. These versatile Spiegelau Five O'Clock Cocktail glasses are a prime choice and amazing value for your entertainment bar. The elegant shape, with a hint of a curve at the rim and a generous 11 ounce capacity, make these glasses ideal for Martinis, Cosmopolitans, Manhattans, Gibsons, or Lemon Drops. Reader Reviews I've no real business buying more martini glasses; when your collection outnumbers the days of the week you should show some restraint. Still, during a recent Friday Sale, these glasses popped up at a very low price, so I decided to replace some of my older martini glasses with some new Spiegelau. I wasn't immediately taken with the shape, but with a price so low, I was willing to gamble on it. The glasses arrived very quickly (after a postal holiday no less) and were opened and cleaned last night. Initially I was disappointed with the shape, as it was more like a dish on a stem, by which I mean the joint at the base is very obvious. More than likely machine-made with a joint like that. The more I looked at them however, the more I started to like them and could understand the "relaxed elegance" of the design; should hold a Stoli see-through with olives nicely. Things nose-dived shortly after I started washing them, when the lower quality of the crystal became apparent. A search of Spiegelau did not support this marque or design, so I have to wonder how highly they rate them themselves. Nothing unforgivable considering the sale price, but you get what you pay for and the quality is immediately apparent. For what I paid they're excellent as crystal is nicer to imbibe with. At full price you'd be daft to quaff with these. |
